Review

This book is the best in the Legacy of the Force series. I waited until having read the final book to add this claim - and it still holds after that. In some ways it's odd, because of the first books by each of the three authors, I liked Traviss' the least. But she has shown that she is undoubtedly a brilliant writer.

As always with Traviss, my favourite character was Boba Fett. If Allston wrote about Wedge Antilles a lot (see review for Fury), Traviss does the same for Boba Fett - and with the same positive results. The only problem with his storyline is that the other two authors pretty much ignore it - meaning that the last time he was active was in Sacrifice. That's more of a comment on the series than this book though - so I'll move on. The story of Jaina interlinks quite a lot with Fett's in this book - and Jaina was my second favourite character, so these scenes were something to look forwards to. There wasn't a particularly large amount of action in this book, but these scenes were entertaining.

The highlight of this book lays towards the end - when Ben presents the results of his continuing investigations. The emotion in that scene was incredible, and just remembering it stirs up sadness. It is the single most poignant moment in the series - and in some ways the most absorbing scene.

This is a short review, partly because I left it too long to review it, but mainly because it's hard to write a long review about a great book. Everything about this book I loved - and I would probably recommend the series on the strength of this book alone.
