Hi,
Some of you will have noticed that the last couple of weeks, ever since my optimistic post about how I would be posting regularly, there has been no posts on the site. This is for personal reasons beyond my control, as well as several reasons partially in my control - the latter being Jury Duty, Moving House and returning to University all in the space of a month.
This message is to let people know what's going on, at least vaguely, and to assure everyone that I will continue to review books, and will resume posting reviews next Friday (17th) . However, because I will be back at university - studying, I will be reducing the post rate to one post a week.
Unless I'm procrastinating.
Sorry for the lack of posts, and hope the future reviews are helpful to you.
Thanks for reading,
Adam Bourke

NEWS: Star Wars Reviews

Some of you may have noticed that there are quite a few star wars reviews on the site. In fact there is 18 as of a minute ago. There's a very good reason for this. I like them, find them easy to pick up and read, and there are a lot of them (around 160 I think - although I don't own them all. Yet.)
But some people think I post too many Star Wars reviews. Fair enough, some people might not like Star Wars. But I've come up with what I feel to be a fair comprise...

You may have noticed that the site looks a little different. I decided that the site needed something more, something to make it stand out. A logo, a banner, a colour-scheme. Something. So this is it.

NEWS: Monthly Newsletter

Hi Everyone,
I'm thinking of adding a monthly newsletter style post to the blog. perhaps the last Sunday of every month, or something along those lines. Now some of you might not want this. Some of you might just want to read reviews, and not bother with the running with the site.
Fair Enough. It's what you came for. Then really, you should look at post with the "review" tag. To be helpful, here's the link http://sfandfantasyreviews.blogspot.com/search/label/Review. You can bookmark that for a quick link. But once a month isn't so bad is it?

NEWS: Recent Delay

Some of you may have noticed that the most recent review was posted a few hours late. What happened!? Well, essentially Blogger/Blogspot/Google was having some problems and decided to solve it by deleting posts from the last three days temporarily (although none have mine have returned) and making it impossible to post for a while.
Since I had this on timer, it would have posted anyway I believe. Except that I set the timer two days ago. Meaning that that version of the post was deleted, and the old version without an incorrect timer was all that remained. I didn't know this at the time, so posted the post manually (apparently just after I was allowed to do so again.). I don't think this will happen again any time soon, but I thought I'd let people know what happened (Something Google is hesitant to do, apparently). Note: may get a second post of the previous entry sometime next week. I'm not sure if the old version will still try to post or not.

NEWS: More Posts, More Regularly...

Those who regularly read this blog may have noticed that for the last for weeks, every post has been on a Tuesday. That's because I decided that reviewing regularly was a good idea, and likely to make more people keep reading the blog.
Now... One review a week isn't a lot. But since this is pretty much a bobby-type affair, real-life prevents me reading lots of books a week. So I've come to a conclusion. It doesn't take long to write the review, just the reading. So there will be another post each week, with either a shorter, less detailed review of books that I've already read or reviews of shorter books (Such as those aimed at Children). This will allow me to spread more reviews, without taking up too much more of my time, as well as reviewing some of the Kid's books I have waiting.
The first of these Friday posts will be posted in exactly 24 hours from this post, and the first few will be some of my favourite books. The Tuesday posts will continue ro be books read with the intention of reviewing, as usual.
Hopefully this will allow me to review more books, more regularly, and more often.

NEWS: New Format!

Hi Everyone,
Due to personal reasons, this blog has been sadly lacking of reviews of late. However, I'm hopeful that things are now looking up. December has already seen more posts than the previous few months (not including this one!) and there are two more already scheduled for before Christmas.
In addition, and this is what this post is really about, is the format is changing. As you may have noticed, several things about the layout of the reviews has changed. This is due to me getting used to how the blog works, and new features.
The first thing was that pictures started appearing! Now clicking on these pictures, or the link further below, will take you to the Amazon page of that book (Handy, huh?). I feel like I should tell you that if you DO buy the book, or anything else from amazon between clicking that link and closing amazon, I will get commission. I don't know how much, but if this troubles you, you can just go to amazon the normal way.
Secondly, the template of the blog changed. I preferred the old one, but the main body was too thin. So it had to change.
And thirdly... There's something called Jump Break - click Read more to find out about it.

Recently I've had internet troubles and Exams to worry about, which have both contributed in their own special way (especially the exams) to the lack of updates towards the end of last month and beginning of this month. But both are over (famous last words), So hopefully I'll be able to update more often. Some upcoming reviews are:
Dead Forever : Awakening
The Ambassador's Mission
The Poison Throne
The Iron Hunt
Although as of yet the last three haven't arrived. If they take too long I'll have to fill in the gaps with something else...

NEWS: When a Site is Born...

Welcome to the rather originally and imaginatively named Fantasy and Sci-Fi Review Blog. This Blog was designed for the sole purpose, as the name suggests, of reviewing Fantasy and Science Fiction Books. And maybe the odd film now and again (but we'll not talk about that).
A question I'm sure some of you are thinking about maybe considering, is what makes this stand out from the other multitudes of book review sites out there, and why does the internet need another one?
Well right now the main difference is that this site has considerably less reviews. But since this is the first entry, that should change rather quickly. Now the most important difference is that this site is the first step in a much larger project to create a searchable books database for fantasy and science fiction books. Of course, such a project requires data to be input, and I thought that as I wrote reviews for as many books as possible, I might as well put them online in a blog. Because of this, the reviews on this blog will contain more information about the books themselves.
For example, I tend to prefer fantasy books with a female lead character, so information like main character gender will be included after the review, alongside length, types of relationship, and anything else that may be requested by readers.
So I hope this blog is helpful, once reviews are posted, and i wish you all good Fantasy Reading :-)
